Why should I replace my existing heating or air-conditioning system?
If your air-conditioning or heating system is old, inefficient, or in need of repair, you may want to consider replacing it. Systems of today are as much as 60% more efficient than systems manufactured as little as ten years ago. Wear and tear on a system, as well as those that are improperly maintained, can become very costly and ineffective. The utility cost savings of a new unit may provide an attractive return on your investment. If you are concerned about utility bills or are faced with an expensive repair, you may want to consider replacing your system.

What is involved in installing a new system?
If a system is being added to the home for the first time, most of the components listed above may be required to install the new system. Besides the equipment, the most significant component is ductwork, which can be either metal or fiberglass ductwork. The ductwork, consisting of supply and return ductwork, needs to be properly sized to deliver the right amount of air to each room. The supply duct is attached to the outlet of the furnace or air handler and delivers air to individual zones in your home. Eanes has a complete ductwork manufacturing facility at their office in High Point, North Carolina, and will determine the size of the ductwork going into a space by the amount of air that needs to be delivered to the space.

How do I know what system would be best for my home?
There are several fuel types for heating systems available for use in your home. If your choices are limited to LP (liquefied petroleum) or electricity, the electric heat pump should be very high on your list to consider. Heat pumps are reliable and typically use only a third as much energy as traditional electric systems and do not have the safety considerations of LP systems. The initial cost of installing a heat pump may be slightly higher than a traditional heating system but, your savings in operating costs normally return your additional investment in 2 or 3 heating seasons, followed by years of reduced operating costs. Equally rated cooling systems operate for the same cooling costs regardless of heat type. Go to our System Selector to see what type may work best for your specific needs.

What happens if I don't replace my filter as recommended?
When filters are not replaced as recommended, the cooling (evaporator) coil, indoor fan motor, and duct system get dirty, which can translate to higher operating cost, poor cooling, condensation leaks, frequent equipment failure, and shortened equipment life. It also means a decrease in the air quality you and your family breathes due to the presence of more dirt and allergens, increased mold and algae growth, and rust.

Should I change my indoor coil?
To gain the best efficiency of your new system, the answer is yes. When replacing your air conditioner or heat pump, the efficiency ratings that are advertised for an air conditioner or heat pump are based on the performance as part of a matched system. If only the outdoor portion is changed, the efficiency and savings could be less than that of a matched system.
